According to reports from Spain, Real Madrid will make one last attempt to sign Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies after the Copa America concludes. Davies, who has been a key target for Madrid this summer, is in the final year of his contract. However, Madrid is hesitant to pay a high fee for a player they could potentially acquire for free next season.
Bayern is seeking around €50m (£42.2m) for Davies, but as AS notes, Madrid believes that price should be lower given the player’s clear desire to move to Spain. Madrid officials have paused their pursuit while Davies is at the Copa America, but they plan to renew their efforts once Canada’s participation ends.
Madrid views Davies as the final piece to complete what could be a perfect summer transfer window, having already secured Endrick and Kylian Mbappe. Both players will be presented at the Santiago Bernabeu later this month. While Madrid would prefer to add Davies to their roster immediately, they are willing to wait 12 months to sign him on a free transfer if necessary.
With Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia already in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, Madrid does not feel pressured to rush the deal and will avoid any agreements that do not align with their terms. Despite Bayern’s efforts to retain Davies with an improved contract offer, no agreement has been reached. Initially, it was suggested that Bayern might keep Davies for another year and let him leave for free, but recent reports indicate they are now considering selling the Canada international while they still can.
